种子精选机的工作原理是利用种子和其它夹杂物的物理机械性能的不同来进行的。本机利用以下几种特性实现分离。（1）风选主要是按重量及空气动力学特性，通过改变吸风道截面积大小得到不同气流速度而达到提升种子和精选的目的。（2）筛选是利用种子和混杂物之间在几何尺寸上的差别，通过一定规格的孔来分离杂物和瘦籽粒的。本机所用的筛片有圆孔和长孔两种。（3）筒选是按种子长度进行分离的。

主要用途：该机通过筛片更换和风量调节，能对小麦、水稻、高粱、豆类、胡麻、油菜、牧草等种子及颗粒状化肥进行精选、分级，有利于机械化精量播种。
