packless model vaf vibration absorbersare designed for installation in the suction and discharge lines ofair conditioning and refrigeration systems to dampen thetransmission of air compressor-induces vibration through systempiping.
packless vaf’s are constructed of deep pitch corrugated tubing forincreased flexibility and vibration absorption, covered by hightensile wire braid for superior strength. tubing and braid arereinforced by ferrules at each end, and connected to female coppertube ends by high temperature braze alloys. the units are designedfor making sweat connections to refrigerant piping. sixteen modelsare available to fit copper tubing sizes from 1/4 through 4-1/8inches o.d.
each vaf is pressure tested then carefully vacuum tested using ahighly sensitive helium mass spectrometer leak detection device.units are cleaned, dehydrated and sealed in plastic film afterfinal installation. vaf’s are available either in bulk orindividually boxed.
packless vaf’s are recognized under the component programs ofunderwriter’s laboratories, inc. (u.l.) and the canadian standardsassociation (c.s.a.) for application on both suction and dischargelines in sizes through 3-1/8 inches o.d., and for suction side onlyin sizes 3-5/8 and 4-1/8 inches o.d.
installation
packless vaf’s function best when installed as close to thecompressor as possible, and perpendicular to the major vibrationdirection as shown below.
for optimum absorption of vibration, the refrigerant line should beanchored at the end of the vaf furthest from the vibrationsource.
install packless vaf’s horizontally, as shown above, whereverpossible. care should be taken to allow sufficient space for thevaf so that it will not be subject to static compression or tensionafter soldering in place. units should be installed in a straightline; they are not intended to compensate for offsetpiping.
although high temperature alloys are used to braze the joints ofpackless vaf’s, the torch flame should nevertheless be directedaway from the ferrule when making the sweat connection of the vafto the piping.
