insulation and insulationclasses
according to iec 60085,insulatingmaterials are divided into insulation classes. each class has adesignation to the temperature that is the upperlimit of the range of application of the insulating material undernormal operating condition.
the winding insulation of a motor isdetermined on the basis of the temperature rise in the motor andthe ambient temperature.the insulation is normally
dimensioned for the hottest point inthe motor at its normal rated output and at ambient temperature of40℃ .motors subjected to ambient temperatures above 40℃ willgenerally have to be derated.
in most cases,the standard ratedoutputs of motors from abb motors are based on the temperature risefor insulation class b.where the temperature rise is
according to class f,this isspecified in the data tables.
however, all the motors are designedwith class f insulation,which permits a higher temperature risethan class b.the motors,therefore,have a generous over-load margin.if temperature,rise to class f is allowed,the outputs given in thetables can generally be increased by about 12%.
temperature limits are according tostandards.the extra thermal margin when using class f insulationwith class b temperature rise makes the motors morereliable.
