dupont™ teflon® pfa 340 is a general-purpose resin available inclear, 2.5-mm (0.1-in.) pellets. compared with other grades ofteflon® pfa, its most unique features are a relatively high flowrate and properties that make it suitable for a variety ofprocesses and demanding end uses.

teflon® pfa 340 and the other teflon® pfa (perfluoroalkoxy)fluoropolymer resins combine the processing ease of conventionalthermoplastics with properties similar to those ofpolytetrafluoroethylene. they have high melt strength, stability athigh processing temperatures, and resistance to creep at highservice temperature.

teflon® pfa 340 is used when traditional extrusion and moldingprocesses are required for producing products with the superiorproperties of a fluoropolymer resin. for a given process, its highmelt strength and thermal stability can be used to improve rates.compared with other fluoropolymers, its creep resistance at itshigh service temperatures provides a superior balance and level ofend-use properties.

properly processed products made from neat teflon® pfa 340 resinprovide the superior properties typical of the fluoropolymerresins: retention of properties after service at 260°c (500°f),useful properties at -196°c (-320°f), and chemical inertness tonearly all industrial chemicals and solvents. dielectric constantand dissipation factor are exceptionally low. molded products havemoderate stiffness and high ultimate elongation.

in a flame situation, products of teflon® pfa 340 resistignition and do not themselves promote flame spread. when ignitedby flame from other sources, their contribution of heat is smalland with very little smoke.
