general grade polystyrene (gpps)

polystyrene (ps) is polymerized from styrene monomer (sm) andcan be synthesized through various synthetic methods. in industry,bulk polymerization and suspension polymerization are mainly used.the english name for polystyrene is polystyrene, abbreviated as ps(hereinafter referred to as ps). ps is a thermoplastic amorphousresin, mainly divided into general grade polystyrene (gpps,commonly known as transparent benzene), impact resistant gradepolystyrene (hips, commonly known as modified benzene), and foamedgrade polystyrene (eps).

gpps characteristics

gpps is a colorless, odorless, tasteless and glossy, transparentparticle. lightweight, affordable, low water absorption, goodadhesion, dimensional stability, good electrical performance,transparent product, and easy processing.

gpps is soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinatedhydrocarbons, aliphatic ketones, and esters, but can only swell inacetone. can withstand the effects of certain mineral oils, organicacids, bases, salts, lower alcohols, and their aqueous solutions.low water absorption, able to maintain its mechanical propertiesand dimensional stability in humid environments. excellentelectrical performance, high volume resistance and surfaceresistance, and unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, aswell as corona discharge. the radiation resistance is also verygood.

the main drawbacks of gpps are its brittle and easily crackedtexture, low impact strength, poor heat resistance, and inabilityto withstand boiling water. it can only be used at lowertemperatures and loads. poor sunlight resistance, flammable. whenburning, it turns black and has a special odor.

universal grade polystyrene can be used for daily necessities,electrical, instrument casings, toys, lighting fixtures, householdappliances, stationery, cosmetic containers, indoor and outdoordecorations, fruit trays, optical components (such as prisms,lenses), lenses, window mirrors and molds, car lights,telecommunications accessories, electric frequency container films,uency insulation materials, tv containers, waveguides,chemical containers, etc. suspension polymerization resin can bemade into foam plastics with different densities, which can be usedas heat insulation, sound insulation, shock prevention, floating,packaging materials, cork substitutes, pre foam body can be used aswater filtering medium and light concrete, and low foam plastic canbe made into synthetic wood for furniture, etc.

high impact polystyrene (hips) can be injected or extruded intoa variety of products, suitable for household appliances,electrical appliances, instrument accessories, refrigerator lining,plates, televisions, radio recorders, telephone shells, culturaland educational supplies, toys, packaging containers, dailynecessities, furniture, tableware, trays, tableware, structuralfoam products, etc.

forming and processing of polystyrene (ps)

polystyrene has good fluidity, good processing performance, easycoloring, and good dimensional stability. various parts can beprocessed using methods such as injection molding, extrusionmolding, blow molding, foaming, hot forming, bonding, coating,welding, machining, printing, etc. especially suitable forinjection molding, materials can generally be used directly withoutdrying during injection molding. but in order to improve the of the product, it can be pre dried for 1-2 hours in a 55℃~70 ℃ blast oven. the specific processing conditions are roughlyas follows: the barrel temperature is around 200 ℃, the moldtemperature is 60-80 ℃, the injection temperature is 170 ℃ to 220℃, and the injection pressure ratio is 1.6-4.0. the formed productshould be treated at a constant temperature of 70 ℃ for 2-4 hoursin an infrared lamp or blast oven.
