dupont™ teflon ® pfa 440hpa is a special purpose fluoroplasticresin available in pellet form. this resin is a chemically modifiedform of teflon ® pfa 340 that combines many of the benefits of theparent resin (a relatively high typical melt flow rate of 16) withseveral additional benefits including enhanced purity, improvedthermal stability while processing, and chemical inertness, forexample, to ozonated fluids. table 1 shows the typical propertydata for teflon ® pfa 440hpa.
teflon ® pfa 440hpa is a premium resin with the lowest level ofextractables designed to meet ultra-high purity re ® pfa 440hpa has a relatively high melt flow rate (typicalmfr of 16) for injection molding and extrusion processes, and thehighest level of inertness due to stable end group polymerstructure. the enhanced purity of teflon ® pfa 440hpa makes itsuitable for applications that require improved color, lowerextractable fluorides, and freedom from other foreign materials.this product contains no additives and is designed for hostilechemical environments where purity in the parts-per-billion rangeis needed. examples are in semiconductor manufacture, fluidhandling systems for industry or life sciences, and instrumentationfor precise measurements of fluid systems. compared to otherthermoplastics, the high melt strength and thermal stability ofteflon ® pfa 440hpa can be used to improve processing rates,combining the processing ease of conventional thermoplastics withmany properties similar to those of polytetrafluoroethylene.
properly processed products made from neat teflon ® pfa 440hparesin provide the superior properties characteristic offluoroplastic resins: chemical inertness, exceptional dielectricproperties, heat resistance, toughness and flexibility, lowcoefficient of friction, non-stick characteristics, negligiblemoisture absorption, low flammability, performance at temperatureextremes, and excellent weather resistance.
in a flame situation, products of teflon ® pfa 440hpa resistignition and do not promote flame spread. when ignited by flamefrom other sources, their contribution of heat is very small andadded at a slow rate with very little smoke.
