tulsion® cmb polymershave chloromethyl functionality and are used for peptidesynthesis.use of such polymers for peptide synthesis was initiatedby merrifield in 1963. the formation of peptide bond starts withreaction of a protected amino acid molecule with chloromethyl groupon the surface of the polystyrene polymer. after removal of theprotecting group, a new amino acid molecule is reacted to elongatethe peptide chain. the elongation is continued with stepwiseaddition. excess reagents and byproducts are removed by filtrationat each step. the final step in the synthesis involves freeing upof the protecting group as well as liberating the peptidefrom thepolymer. properties of the polymers can be tailor-made to suitindividual application needs.
