聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯是热塑性聚酯中主要的品种，俗称涤纶树脂。它是由对苯二甲酸二甲酯与乙二醇酯交换或以对苯二甲酸与乙二醇酯化先合成对苯二甲酸双羟乙酯，然后再进行缩聚反应制得。与pbt一起统称为热塑性聚酯，或饱和聚酯。

in 1946 the united kingdom issued a patent for the preparation ofpet, in 1949 the united kingdom ici formula completed pilot, butthe united states dupont company after the purchase of patents, in1953, the establishment of a production plant to achieve industrialproduction in the world. in its early days, pet was almost alwaysused in synthetic fibers (commonly known as polyester, dacron) .since 1980s, pet has made a breakthrough development as engineeringplastics, and has successively developed nucleating agent andcrystallization accelerator. at present, pet and pbt are one of thefive engineering plastics together as thermoplastic polyester. petis divided into fiber-grade pet chips and non-fiber-grade petchips. 1 fiber grade polyester is used to manufacture polyesterstaple fiber and polyester filament, which is the raw material forpolyester fiber enterprises to process fiber and related products.polyester fiber is a kind of high yield chemical fiber. 2 non-fibergrade polyester also has bottle, film and other applications,widely used in packaging, electronics, health care, construction,automotive and other fields, including packaging is polyesternon-fiber application market, but also pet growth areas. a largenumber of used as fiber, and engineering plastic resin can bedivided into non-engineering plastic grade and engineering plasticgrade two categories, non-engineering plastic grade is mainly usedfor bottles, films, sheets, baking food containers. pet is anopalescent or yellowish, highly crystalline polymer with a smooth,glossy surface. it has excellent physical and mechanical propertiesin a wide temperature range, long-term service temperature up to120 °c, excellent electrical insulation, even at high temperatureand high frequency, its electrical properties are still good, butthe corona resistance is poor, the resistance to creep, theresistance to fatigue, good friction resistance and dimensionalstability. pet has ester bond, it will decompose under the actionof strong acid, strong alkali and water vapor. it has goodresistance to organic solvent and weather. the disadvantages areslow crystallization rate, difficult molding process, high moldingtemperature, long production cycle, poor impact performance. theprocessability and physical properties of the resin were improvedby strengthening, filling and blending, and the resin rigidity,heat resistance, drug resistance, electrical properties and weatherresistance were improved by glass fiber. however, the slowcrystallization rate should be improved by adding nucleating agentand crystallization accelerating agent. the flame retardancy andself-extinguishing property of pet can be improved by adding flameretardant and anti-flame drop agent.
